Retro Review #35: “The Slide Is Afoot!”
FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is back from our longer-than-expected hiatus with another retro review of the 90s sci-fi series SLIDERS. And we’re kicking off the second half of Season 3 by taking a look at Episode 13, “Murder Most Foul” (original airdate: January 3, 1997 on Fox).
On an over-worked world with an uptight population, Arturo is thought to be a ‘fracture’ and is sent to a fantasy camp for a form of relaxation. When the others find him, they see he has been brainwashed into thinking he is a great detective on the trail of a Jack the Ripper-like murderer.
This episode was written by Season 3 showrunner David Peckinpah (his first) and directed by Jeff Woolnough.
Fandom Entanglement co-hosts Damon Sugameli & Mike Bloxam welcome back the co-hosts of the KORMAN PRODUCTIONS DEEP DIVE TV PODCAST, Dave Korman & Stacie Wilcox! Also joining them is the webmaster of EARTH PRIME, Matt Hutaff, tagging along from our bonus episode!
(Disclaimer: the following paragraph needs to be spoken with a British accent!) There’s been a…MUUURDER! Together, the five of us sort through the clues to determine the identity of the killer. We follow John Rhys-Davies’ splendid performance as renowned detective Sherlock Holmes…or rather, Reginald Doyle due to copyright issues…and Jerry O’Connell’s performance as loyal assistant Marple (not Jane). We also ponder some minute details that take us out of the manufactured facade. However, our good fellow Matt also provides us with a deleted scene that further explains how the illusion is maintained. All in all, a fairly decent episode, and the last one to feature series creator Tracy Tormé in an official capacity. But do we dare say this mystery is anything less than flawless? Join us and find out, won’t you! Why, it’s elementary, our dear Watson! (End British accent here.)

Next up: “Slide Like an Egyptian,” with returning guest Erik Dreiling.
