Retro Review #29: “The Age of Aquarius”

FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is letting the sun shine in with another retro review of the 90s sci-fi series SLIDERS. This time, we’re taking a look at Season 3, Episode 6, “Desert Storm” (original airdate: November 1, 1996 on Fox).

The Sliders land on a world with little water and come to the aid of a mysterious young woman whose gift to find water is being exploited by a group of thugs.

This episode was written by Matt Dearborn and directed by Jim Johnston.

Co-hosts Damon Sugameli & Mike Bloxam reach a level of harmony and understanding with special guest Wayne McCarty, co-host of the Florida Men on Florida Man podcast. Sympathy and trust abound as the boys team up to offer their thoughts on an episode that seems to be channelling its inner Mad Max with a splash of Waterworld (pun intended). Wayne does, however, offer a unique perspective as he has never seen a single episode of Sliders beforehand and therefore has no preconceived falsehoods or derisions surrounding the series as a whole. That being said, we delve into the living dreams and visions of water-witch Devin and her mystic crystal revelation. Witness her mind’s true liberation upon returning to the long-lost city of Aquarius from which she was born… Okay, this description has farmed as much as it can out of those lyrics. This is the dawning of our analysis and review. We hope you enjoy it!

Next up: “Dragonslide,” with returning guests Jan Fennick and Christina Gist.

This episode is dedicated to actor Ken Steadman (who played “Cutter”).
